Remembering Edmond Wong 1954-2008 - by Candace Wong-Segrove
As our family nears the two-year anniversary of Edmond's homecoming on March 12th, we remember our friend, husband, father, and "preacher in the park" His desire was to see His father's will done here on earth as it is in heaven. As a family we honor his faithfulness to the Lord, by honoring his only wish for us here on this earth "I just want a family who loves Jesus." Our desire for our family is that we would continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus and intimately know Christ as Edmond so intimately and evidently did. We greatly miss him and his joyous passion for sharing salvation with others. I often compare my father to Babe Ruth. Babe Ruth held
the record for the most strike out's in baseball history, while also holding the record for the most homeruns. That would sum up my dad's style of witnessing. Grocery store, video store, Disneyland, on the job, on the bus, library, car mechanic, you name it, if my dad was in contact with 20 people that day, he probably witnessed to 19 of them and probably once or twice a week he'd hit that homerun and someone would pray to surrender their life over to Jesus. On top of that, he'd feel convicted for not witnessing to that one person out of the twenty. His witnessing was relentless. Edmond was always looking for an opportunity to open that door of conversation to bring up Jesus, and if the door never came, he'd just make one and say, "Talked to God today?" And on top of all that...he ministered to us, his family, and showed us the way to go, that we may walk in it. We hope more husbands and fathers will live upright and love their families as you loved us. We truly love you "more than ever" Dad. And with Edmond, we ask that God would grant us, His servants, to continue to boldly speak His word! Amen.

"I'm Not Ready to Die...Yet" by Steven Lear
Mr. "Chin" traveled all night. Before dawn, he crossed the Tumen River and stepped back into his homeland of North Korea. The guards patrolling the river's banks remained deaf to his footsteps. They also remained ignorant of a very dangerous item that was buried under clothes in his backpack. Mr. Chin knew the item could lead to his execution, but he chose to carry it anyway.
After 10 days, Mr. Chin arrived home. His wife and daughter greeted him with a sigh of relief. If his neighbors even suspected that he had traveled outside the country, they would tell the authorities and Mr. Chin would be locked away in a labor camp, probably for life.

Literacy
Adrianna has stayed very busy with literacy. She has been teaching almost daily. She has been working with several of the children and women here. It takes a long time for things to click in their minds, but once it clicks, they accelerate quickly in their reading. One boy that she had been teaching over the years has been gone for almost six months. When he came back yesterday to study some more, he knew how to read. They say it was because Simon who was a middle schooler at the time had taught this boy and that is why he knows how to read. Even a child can teach phonetically. Their language is easy to teach. Now some of them are learning math (addition, subractions, and multiplication). Some are reading in Tagalog as well as theri native dialect, Kabulowan.
We have also been working on teaching some adults how to read. That has been a bigger challenge They are gone quite often, and when they do show up, they are either too tired to study, get distracted by their children, or they quit easily because it is too hard. It depends on the motivation because one man that David taught is reading his bible now daily.
Teaching God's Word
We continue teaching the Bible, although it is constantly a challenge with people coming and going. Rarely do I know when I am going to teach. We know that two of the guys, Hinaro and Uliman, are believers, and they have been taught now for several years. We have been working thru Galations with them. The problem, a good problem, is that they will show up at the door and tell us that they are ready to be taught after they have been gone for a while. So I have to be ready to teach no matter when. It might be first thing in the morning, or evening, or midday. If I go see them (meaning hiking to where they are working), I always take teaching materials in case they have time to be taught.
There is another group of people that we teach. We are working thru the book of John with them, wanting them to se what Jesus is really like. We don't know who among them are Christians. But God knows who are His, and we rest in that.
Family
Jacob and Matthw are at the same college. Jacob majoring in Biology, and Matthew in International Business. They are both doing fine, staying busy. Melissa and Simon are very busy with school, and sports. Simon got hurt playing rugby but is healing up now. Melissa was on the Varsity Basketball team and is now gearing up for soccer. Thank you for praying for them to make wise choices that honor and please the Lord.
Thank you for your faithul prayers and support for us in this ministry to the Dumagats.
In Christ, David and Adriana Petro

Rancho De Sus Ninos
From January 2010 Newsletter (Posted on bulletin board in Fellowship Hall)
As we look back on 2009 and revel in the tesimonies of what He did in and through us, we are even more hopeful for what 2010 will hold. It says in John 14:12 "I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I've been doing. He will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father." We are expecting to do even greather things!
As hope flourishes here, so do strategies and vision. Our plans are great and ideas are plentiful. We are going to need your help to fulfill them. Come and be a part of a movement of God. Help us build a better future for the children of Mexico and take the gospel to its unreached people.
Current Rancho needs:
TWIN BED SHEETS: 54 sets for the orphange
2 HOUSE MOMS for our girls homes. If you're interested in the 1 year commitment, contact us: ranchodesusninos@sti.net
If Faith is the key, then HOPE is the door it opens...
